GET INVOLVED - PM Gordon meets some of the Celebrities suppoting Sport relief today

Sport Relief is back, and this time it's from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st March. The whole of the UK will come together to get active, raise cash and change lives.
It has a unique history of dedicated people doing extraordinary things to make a difference - from David Walliams’ swim across the English Channel, to Eddie Izzard’s amazing marathon a day around the UK.
And that's not to mention the thousands of incredible fundraisers who do something fun and active to raise cash and help make the world of difference.
All the money raised by the public is spent by Comic Relief
to help transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people,
both at home and across the world’s poorest countries.
So be a part of it…

Rise to the challenge for Sport Relief!

Zamcog Charity Event March 30th

Zamcog is a charity that raises  funds to educate and support street kids and orphans in Zambia. We make a real difference to kids lives as all funds raised go direct to the project. It takes only £300 a year to feed, clothe, educate and provide shelter to a child who is orphaned and hitherto had no real prospects in life.We now see children passing exams and planning to be engineers and teachers with hope in their lives and a plan for their future.Zamcog focuses on self-sufficiency and sustainability.
It really is a fantastic cause and makes a real difference.
On the evening they  will be displaying some fantastic artwork and photographs of the children and their environment. They are beautifully mounted and framed and I personally have bought some for display in my own home. Each one tells a story and becomes personal to you as you they are a talking point and you have a story about the child you have helped.
Go along and donate £100 or more in exchange for a piece of artwork of your choosing.
The event runs from 6pm to 9.30pm. You can just drop by for an hour if that is easier.
We recently ran a similar exhibition at The  (ROA) 2,  Royal Opera Arcade Gallery in London and raised over £40,000 on one evening event  as guests were so moved by the cause and the work the charity was doing in Zambia.

Reggio a Pre School Philosphy of teaching Children

Sightlines the UK charity that supports the philosophy
  • Encourage reflective, creative early years work in all parts of the UK, through promotion, policy contributions, training, advocacy and consultancy
  • Establish a UK membership network for professionals and others to access information and materials aimed at developing environments which support children in learning
  • Demonstrate creative, reflective approaches to early learning through action research projects, mentoring and consultancy.
  • Develop a sustainable national resource centre

SI is a registered charity, with a large network of members from the UK and beyond and a small staff team of 5. Sightlines is governed by a board of Trustees drawn from the field of childhood education, and an informal Advisory team who oversee the strategic direction of the organisation.

The strategic aim is enable SI to become a national centre for innovation and expertise in early year’s education through a research and development programme of projects, training and evaluation, offering exemplars of good practice and sharing them nationally and internationally.

Sightlines works in three key areas:

Locally: Sightlines develops and supports long term creative thinking in action research projects with artists, educators and children in early years settings.
Nationally: Sightlines hosts the ReFocus Network. It is a nationwide learning community of over 1000 members connecting creative reflective practice and projects and influencing policy development in the UK. Sightlines organises continuous professional development opportunities for members and hosts an on-line documentation and project archive.
Internationally: Sightlines is the UK reference point for Reggio Children facilitating the opportunity to learn from the Reggio experience. In 2006 Reggio Children established the Reggio Children International Network and Sightlines is a founding member of this network (20 countries). Since 1997 Sightlines has organised annual study visits to Reggio Emilia and has organised the hosting of exhibitions from Reggio in the UK. Sightlines now also organises annual study trips to Denmark and Sweden.

Today Saturday -Gordon Brown has visited the  British troops in Afghanistan amid a row over how well forces were equipped in the Iraq war.

Alice in Wonderland Movie

A must see film, Tim Burton has done it again,
I found Mia Wasikowska a bit cold and lacking emotion but Stephen Fry and Alan Rickman
were wonderful.
My favourite were Tweedledee and Twiddledum wonderfull characters.
Johnny looked great as the Mad Hatter.

Satyagraha

Satyagraha

One of the most visually spectacular opera stagings of recent decades, ENO's London premiere production of Philip Glass's Satyagraha broke all Company box-office records for contemporary opera when it was first seen in 2007. Instilled with breath-taking theatrical flair by Improbable's award-winning director-designer partnership of Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch, it went on to enjoy equal success at the Metropolitan Opera, New York. A mesmerisingly hypnotic musical meditation upon Mahatma Gandhi's early years in South Africa, and his spiritual progress towards the concept of non-violent protest, Glass's operatic masterpiece now returns to the London Coliseum. Alan Oke repeats his compelling central performance as the young political activist taking the first tentative steps in his lifelong search for truth.
Performed in Sanskrit with English surtitles
Original production supported by The 20/20 Group
A collaboration with Improbable
A co-production with The Metropolitan Opera, New York
